Woman Who Married at 47 Welcomes Two Children, Says “It Doesn’t Matter When You Marry”

A Nigerian woman who reportedly got married at the age of 47 has shared her journey to marriage and motherhood, revealing that she later welcomed two children with her younger husband. In a Facebook post, the woman said she had little expectation of becoming a mother when she married, believing she was approaching menopause. She also recalled that some people, including members of her husband’s family, had opposed the marriage because of her age. According to her account, her husband was 44 when they got married and stood by his decision despite the opposition. She described their first year of marriage as a happy period, saying her husband took her to Ghana for their honeymoon and treated her with considerable care. The couple reportedly discovered that they were expecting their first child after she missed her period while her husband was outside the country. She said he initially mentioned adoption before realising that she was telling him she was pregnant. The woman said she eventually gave birth to their first child in the United Kingdom, with her husband present throughout the experience. She later became pregnant again when their first child was nine months old. According to her, the second pregnancy was emotionally difficult, and she nearly experienced depression, but her husband supported her and hired a cook and nanny to assist her. She subsequently gave birth to their second child in the UK. The woman said the arrival of their first child also helped improve her relationship with her husband's family, who she claimed had previously been reluctant to accept her.
