Ojay Wright Says Dating in Nigeria Came With Unexpected Financial Requests

Nigerian-American singer Ojay Wright has shared what he described as one of his biggest culture shocks after relocating to Nigeria, particularly his experience dating Nigerian women. Wright said he was surprised by how frequently he encountered requests for money while interacting with women he was dating. According to him, financial expectations sometimes emerged almost immediately, something he said was different from what he had experienced while living abroad. “Everybody just asks for money. They’re always asking for money. I think that was the biggest shock for me.” Wright further remarked that, in his experience, even starting a conversation could sometimes lead to a financial request. “Over here you cannot even say hello or hi without getting billed.” The singer said he experienced what he described as repeated requests for money during his first few months in Nigeria, adding that he was not against spending money while dating. He explained that it was the frequency of the requests, rather than spending itself, that surprised him. “It’s not like I wouldn’t spend. But it’s money, money, money here.
