A woman has recounted her experience after securing what appeared to be a lucrative Head of Content position with a monthly salary of ₦1.2 million, only for the job to end abruptly after she raised concerns about the company’s operations.
According to her account, the position initially appeared attractive, offering a short commute, a 9am–5pm schedule and a monthly net salary of ₦1.2 million.
However, she said she discovered shortly after resuming that she was the only employee in the content department, effectively leaving her responsible for the entire function.
She also claimed that the organisation was working on about 63 products simultaneously and appeared to be primarily focused on securing venture capital funding.
According to her account, another unusual aspect of the company’s operations involved a forex trader who was reportedly expected to generate $100,000 monthly.
She said concerns increased when the forex trader allegedly began asking her for transport money.
The woman further recounted that the company later asked her to help establish a podcast and studio. After she submitted a detailed list of the required equipment and estimated costs, she said she was asked to leave.
She reportedly questioned the decision through the human resources department but was allegedly told that the HR representative did not know why she was being asked to leave.
She said the company subsequently offered her ₦93,000 for the work and stress she had experienced, but claimed that even the amount was not immediately available.
According to her account, the company eventually laid off its employees, while the last remaining employee allegedly went six months without receiving a salary.
The account has generated discussion online about startup operations, employment red flags, salary promises and the importance of researching a company before accepting a job offer.
Source: GistReel; the account is presented as the woman's personal experience and the allegations about the company have not been independently established in the report.
