Nigeria’s Federal Government is planning to mobilise about 4,000 social media influencers and content creators, including TikTokers and YouTubers, to showcase federal infrastructure projects and communicate the administration’s achievements to Nigerians.

Minister of Works David Umahi disclosed the plan on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on an inspection of federal road projects across Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Sokoto states.

Umahi said the government needed a stronger presence on social media to provide information about ongoing and completed projects, particularly to young Nigerians. He said:

“We have to fight this social media war. So, we have to launch 4,000 social media influencers to tell our stories.”

The announcement comes ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. However, the minister did not announce the proposed creators’ remuneration, recruitment criteria or commencement date.

The initiative followed NANS inspections of federal projects in four northern states. The student leaders identified infrastructure gaps around tertiary institutions and called for measures including additional pedestrian bridges.

Umahi also disclosed that pavement work covering about 105 kilometres of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is targeted for completion by November 2026, while raising concerns about vandalism and damage to infrastructure along the project.
