Police release a photo of a woman found dead in C'River hotel, hunt male companion

The Nigeria Police Force in Cross River State has released the photograph of an unidentified woman who was found dead in a hotel in Calabar South, as investigators intensify efforts to establish her identity and locate the man who reportedly lodged with her.

The woman was discovered earlier in September in Room 2 of a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, after she reportedly checked into the facility with an unidentified male guest.

According to police, the male guest was not properly documented when he checked into the hotel and his current whereabouts remain unknown. Investigators are now trying to locate him and establish what happened before the woman's death.

Police said a receptionist discovered the woman lying unresponsive on the bed after noticing that the room door was open. Investigators who examined the scene reportedly observed apparent marks of violence on her face and neck. She was taken to General Hospital, Calabar, where she was confirmed dead, and her remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation and possible forensic examination.

Police also said some tablets were recovered from the woman's handbag but stressed that no connection between the tablets and her death has been established at this stage.

The hotel receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with information concerning the admission of the guests and events preceding the discovery. Police have stressed that his detention does not constitute a finding of guilt.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed investigators to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the circumstances surrounding her death, locate the male guest and establish the roles, if any, of other people connected to the case.
