“I Cried So Much Last Night and This Morning” — Mr Macaroni Opens Up on Financial Struggles and Those Who Helped Him

Nigerian comedian and content creator Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has opened up about a difficult financial period he experienced in recent years, saying he was moved to tears after Nigerians began sharing stories of how he had helped them.

The emotional revelation followed comments by veteran Nollywood actor Peter Fatomilola, who recently recounted how Mr Macaroni gave him ₦200,000 after a movie shoot and later paid him ₦1 million for a single scene in another production. 

“I cried so much”

Reacting to the stories, Mr Macaroni said he became emotional after seeing messages from people describing things he had done for them that he no longer remembered.

He explained that he had always believed that the resources available to him were meant, in part, to help others. He also said that he had been focusing too much on things he had lost rather than being grateful for surviving what he described as one of the hardest periods of his life. 

He says he was once the person who needed help.

Mr Macaroni said that although people generally assumed he was financially comfortable because of his public profile, he had experienced a period when he struggled and had to ask others for assistance.

According to his account, he was accustomed to giving rather than receiving and found it difficult to ask for help. He said the situation became particularly difficult over the past few years and that he reached a point where he felt he was close to giving up. 

Someone helped him settle his debts.

The entertainer also revealed that an unnamed individual repeatedly came to his assistance and eventually helped him settle his debts.

Mr Macaroni said he chose not to publicly identify the person but described the assistance as something he regarded as divine intervention. He also expressed gratitude to his friends and supporters, specifically mentioning Don Jazzy, Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji. 

Peter Fatomilola's ₦1m revelation

The story gained momentum after Peter Fatomilola described his experience working with Mr Macaroni.

Fatomilola said Mr Macaroni gave him ₦200,000 as fuel money after he completed two scenes on a production, despite receiving only ₦50,000 from the person who initially hired him.

He said Mr Macaroni later invited him to another production featuring Pete Edochie and paid him ₦1 million for a single scene. Mr Macaroni's subsequent response suggests that the stories being shared publicly prompted him to reflect on both his generosity and the period when he himself needed assistance.

“I am in a better place”

Mr Macaroni said he is now in a better position and is learning from the difficult experiences he went through.

He added that he does not regret the things he has done to improve other people's lives, even when those acts were made during periods when his own circumstances were challenging.
