‘Where Is Nigeria’s President?’ — Peter Obi Calls for Prayers for Tinubu’s Return

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Obi raised the question while reacting to an address delivered by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the UNGA. According to the report, Obi described Mahama’s speech as “remarkable” and said it demonstrated the importance of leadership and commitment in representing a country internationally.

Obi subsequently contrasted Mahama’s attendance with Tinubu’s absence, asking why Nigeria’s president was not present at the international gathering.

“Where is the President of Africa’s most populous nation…”

Obi noted that Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the UNGA, but argued that Shettima’s presence did not eliminate questions about Tinubu’s absence.

He further questioned Tinubu's absence against the backdrop of what he described as significant challenges facing Nigeria both domestically and internationally.

Obi concluded his statement by calling on Nigerians to continue praying for Tinubu’s return and for his leadership in addressing the challenges confronting the country.
