“Church and Mosque Have Contributed to Nigeria’s Retrogression” — VeryDarkMan Criticises Pastor Arome Osayi

Social media activist VeryDarkMan has criticised a recent sermon by Nigerian cleric Apostle Arome Osayi, particularly the pastor’s description of Nigeria’s national calling as one of spiritual revival.

Arome Osayi reportedly made the comments while discussing comparisons between Nigeria and countries such as China. He said Nigerians should look beyond economic indicators and political power, arguing that Nigeria has a spiritual purpose that extends beyond issues such as the naira and governance.

Reacting to the sermon, VeryDarkMan argued that excessive emphasis on prayer and religious activities could discourage Nigerians from pursuing technological innovation, creativity and practical solutions.

“It is this kind of preaching that put Nigeria where it is today. The church and the mosque have contributed to why we are still laid back as a nation.”

He further argued that Nigerians possess the intellectual capacity needed to develop technology and industry but should focus more on applying that capacity.

VeryDarkMan also criticised what he interpreted as Arome's emphasis on revival rather than technological development, particularly after the cleric reportedly questioned the focus on displaying technological innovations from countries such as China.
