“I Bought Shawarma, Got Cucumber” — Man Shares Experience at Church Harvest Program

A Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Abazu, has shared his disappointment after buying two portions of food advertised as shawarma during a church harvest programme, only to discover that the food contained cucumber instead.

According to Abazu, he attended his first church service since August and decided to support the church by purchasing the food after it was repeatedly promoted as shawarma during a fundraiser at the harvest event.

He reportedly took the food home and asked his sister to heat it before he ate it as an appetiser. However, when the package was opened, he discovered that what he had purchased contained cucumber.

Abazu said he initially thought the unusual texture might have been caused by the type of bread used, but became disappointed after discovering what was inside.

He argued that he would have willingly supported the church if the item had been honestly presented as cucumber rather than shawarma.

“If you told me it’s cucumber, I will still support the church but definitely not in the same way I would do for shawarma,” he said, describing the experience as deceptive.

The man said the incident left him unhappy because he had purchased the food as part of his effort to support the church financially.

He added that the experience had taught him to inspect anything he purchases from the church before leaving the premises.

According to him, “Anything I buy from church from now on, I will unwrap it inside church.”

The incident has sparked online reactions, drawing attention to the importance of accurately describing food products sold at fundraising and religious events.
