Mercy Johnson vs Power Oil: Actress Demands Answers Over Billboards Featuring Her Image Years After Contract Expired

Mercy Johnson Calls Out Power Oil Over Use of Her Image Four Years After Contract Expired

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has publicly called out vegetable oil brand Power Oil, alleging that the company has continued using her image in advertisements several years after her endorsement contract expired.

The actress raised the issue on social media on Monday, September 28, 2026, after reportedly spotting promotional material featuring her image.

Mercy Johnson alleged that her contract with Power Oil expired four years ago but claimed that the company has continued displaying her likeness on billboards, buses and other advertising materials without consulting her or providing further compensation.

‘Enough Is Enough’

In her post, the actress directly addressed the brand and asked why her image was allegedly still being used after the expiration of their agreement.

She wrote:

“It has been years, I have not been paid or compensated for my image being used after the expiration of my contract. You are still pushing ads with my image on it without consulting me. Why?”

Mercy also asked Power Oil to respond to her team, indicating that she wanted the matter addressed directly.

> “Please check your DM and revert to my team. Let us not play with dirty waters. Enough is Enough.”

Actress Shares Billboard Evidence

In a follow-up post, Mercy Johnson shared a video showing a billboard carrying her image alongside Power Oil products.

She identified the billboard as being at Nana Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja, according to reports.

The actress also claimed that her image was appearing on other advertising platforms, including buses.

She subsequently appealed to members of the public to document any Power Oil advertisements or billboards they encounter featuring her image.

She asked people to record the advertisements and include the date and location so that the material could be documented.

‘Can You Do This to an Indian Artist?’

Mercy Johnson also questioned whether a similar situation would occur in another country.

Addressing Power Oil, she asked:

“Can you try this in India? Can you do this to an Indian artist?”

She argued that using an entertainer's image without permission should not be acceptable and repeated her demand for answers from the company.

The comparison was part of her broader criticism of what she described as the continued use of her likeness without a renewed agreement.

Contract Details Remain Unclear

While Mercy Johnson says her contract expired four years ago, details of the original agreement have not been publicly disclosed in the reports reviewed.

The available reports do not provide the full contract, its exact expiration date, clauses governing post-contract advertising use, or whether there were provisions allowing Power Oil to continue displaying previously produced promotional materials after the agreement ended.

The actress also has not publicly disclosed the amount of compensation she believes is owed to her.

Consequently, her allegation that the continued use is unauthorised remains her position in the dispute unless and until Power Oil provides its own explanation or relevant contractual information becomes public.

What Happens Next?

The controversy could develop into a contractual or image-rights dispute if the parties fail to resolve the matter privately.

For now, Mercy Johnson has publicly demanded that Power Oil engage with her representatives and explain why advertisements featuring her image remain in circulation.

There has not yet been a detailed public response from Power Oil addressing the actress's allegations in the reports reviewed.

The dispute has consequently drawn attention beyond the entertainment industry, raising questions about celebrity endorsement agreements, the duration of advertising rights and the continued use of an individual's likeness after a commercial contract ends.

For Factful24 readers, the key point is that Mercy Johnson has publicly alleged that Power Oil continued using her image four years after her contract expired; the company's position and the precise contractual terms have yet to be established publicly.
