Bishop Ibro Zion Condemns VDM Over Remarks About Apostle Arome

Bishop Ibro Zion has criticised social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over comments he made about Apostle Arome Osayi, particularly remarks concerning the cleric’s physical appearance.

In a statement shared on September 27, Zion accused VDM of crossing the line and argued that criticism of a public figure should not extend to mocking a condition that Arome has previously discussed as having affected his appearance from childhood. 

Zion also defended Arome’s professional background, noting that the preacher previously worked in Nigeria’s petrochemical sector and had reached an executive level before leaving the industry for ministry. He used this to challenge suggestions that Arome lacked understanding of industrialisation and technology. 

The bishop further defended Arome’s controversial comments about Nigeria having a role in a global Christian revival. According to Zion, Arome was expressing a faith-based position rather than claiming to speak for every Nigerian.

The controversy comes amid a broader public disagreement between VDM and supporters of Arome following criticism of the preacher's sermon on Nigeria, religion, technological development and the country's purported role in Christian revival.

Zion also highlighted the activities of several Nigerian Christian ministers and argued that churches have contributed to areas such as education, healthcare, charity and entrepreneurship. He specifically mentioned figures including Jerry Eze, Joshua Selman, William Kumuyi, Johnson Suleman, Paul Enenche and Chris Oyakhilome. 

Meanwhile, the dispute has continued to generate reactions online, with old videos involving Arome resurfacing amid the controversy. One recently circulated clip showed Arome discussing claims about his ability to stop rainfall during an outdoor meeting in Port Harcourt.
