Lady Shocked After Discovering Neighbour Was Reselling Her Free WiFi for ₦25,000 Monthly

A Nigerian woman has shared how an act of kindness towards her neighbour allegedly turned into an unexpected business arrangement involving her internet connection.

According to a report published by GistReel on September 30, 2026, the woman said she had given her female neighbour access to her WiFi for months after the neighbour complained about the high cost of monthly data subscriptions.

The situation reportedly changed when the woman’s sister visited and attempted to connect to the WiFi.

WiFi Reaches Full Capacity

The woman explained that she had purchased an Airtel WiFi device capable of connecting up to 32 devices.

However, when her sister tried to access the network, she discovered that the device had already reached its maximum capacity.

This reportedly prompted questions about who else was using the connection.

The woman said there were four flats within the compound, and she began asking other tenants which network provider they used.

What she reportedly discovered left her surprised.

Neighbour Allegedly Turned Free Access Into a Business

According to the account, the neighbour who had been given free WiFi access was allegedly charging two other tenants ₦12,500 each every month for access to the same connection.

That meant the neighbour was reportedly collecting a combined ₦25,000 monthly from two tenants while using an internet connection that had been provided to her for free.

The woman subsequently changed the WiFi password after discovering what had happened.

GistReel reported that the woman shared the experience in a widely circulated post on X, where she was identified as @official-QV.

The revelation generated reactions from social media users, with some criticising the neighbour for allegedly turning another person's generosity into a source of income.

One commenter described the situation as the neighbour turning the woman's generosity into a business, while another said the incident would be particularly frustrating because the WiFi had originally been provided to help the neighbour reduce her expenses.

Others advised the woman to simply change the password and move on.

The incident has since sparked conversations online about the risks of sharing personal resources, including WiFi connections, with neighbours or acquaintances without clearly establishing boundaries.

While sharing internet access can be a simple act of kindness, the account also highlights how arrangements that begin informally can become complicated when additional people are given access without the owner's knowledge or consent.
