President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, dismissing concerns about his health and declaring that he is healthy, sound and ready to resume work.

Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2026, after ending his extended working vacation in Paris, France. The Presidency had earlier confirmed his departure from Paris for Nigeria.

Tinubu Addresses Health Concerns

Speaking to journalists shortly after his arrival at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Tinubu was asked about concerns that had circulated regarding his health.

The President rejected the concerns and said he was fit to continue carrying out his responsibilities.

“Ready to kick, ready to work, there’s nothing wrong.”

He added:

“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the fact remains I’m here, healthy, sound and ready to go.”

His comments were also reported by the Voice of Nigeria following his arrival.

Four Weeks in Europe

Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for what the Presidency described as a working vacation.

He initially travelled to London before proceeding to Paris, where he spent the latter part of his stay.

According to the State House, the President remained engaged in a number of official and business-related activities while abroad.

During his time in Paris, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron at a private dinner and held discussions with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group.

The President also met businessman Femi Otedola and witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding involving the Ogun State Government and DP World concerning the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone.

Prolonged Absence Generated Debate

Tinubu's extended stay outside Nigeria generated public and political debate, particularly after his absence stretched beyond the initial period announced for the working vacation.

Questions were also raised by opposition figures about the President's health and the constitutional implications of his prolonged absence.

The Presidency, however, maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

The President chose to return first to Lagos rather than Abuja.

According to the Presidency, the decision was linked to activities marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary and plans to honour the late Chief MKO Abiola.

Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu on October 1.

The Presidency also said he would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos before returning to Abuja.

What the President Said About His Health

Tinubu's latest public comments establish that he himself has rejected reports or concerns about ill health.

However, his statement is not the same as an independent medical assessment. No medical report was presented during his interaction with journalists, and the available official statements focus on his own declaration that he is healthy and ready to work.
