Phyna Knocks Out Nkechi Blessing in Historic Celebrity Boxing Bout

Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna has defeated Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday by knockout in a highly anticipated celebrity boxing bout held in Lagos.

Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, stopped Nkechi Blessing in the fourth and final round of their scheduled four-round contest at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The fight was part of Balmoral Promotions' “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Edition and marked the first female celebrity boxing bout staged under the series.

Phyna secures fourth-round knockout

The contest followed weeks of tension between the two entertainers, with their disagreement playing out publicly on social media and during promotional events leading up to the fight.

Once the bell rang, Phyna relied heavily on movement and speed during the early stages, while Nkechi Blessing attempted to close the distance and engage her opponent at close range.

The actress continued pressing forward as the fight progressed, but Phyna maintained her movement before eventually landing the decisive blows in the final round.

Nkechi Blessing was sent to the canvas and failed to beat the referee's count, bringing the contest to an end and handing Phyna the victory.

The result made Phyna the winner of what was reported as Nigeria's first female celebrity boxing bout under the Balmoral Promotions series.

Phyna wins ₦50 million and championship prizes

Following the victory, Phyna received a ₦50 million cash prize, a championship belt and a new car.

The victory also appears to have encouraged the reality star to consider boxing beyond the celebrity contest.

Speaking after the fight, Phyna indicated that she was interested in pursuing boxing professionally.

She also immediately called out Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was present at the venue.

“I came in, and I kept my cool and did the thing. Now I would like to fight Etinosa,” Phyna said after the contest, according to Punch.

Etinosa subsequently accepted the challenge.

“I accept the challenge fully,” she said, according to reports.

Nkechi Blessing reacts to defeat

Following the loss, Nkechi Blessing responded to the result on social media.

The actress described herself as a “CHAMPION regardless of the result” and suggested that people who watched the contest would understand her perspective.

She also said that she had trained for only two days before the fight.

“Now let’s go back to making movies cus I no be boxer,” she wrote, indicating that she intended to return to acting rather than pursue boxing.

In a subsequent social-media appearance, Nkechi explained that her limited preparation was one of the reasons she believed she lost.

She contrasted her two days of training with Phyna's reportedly longer preparation period and maintained that she was not a professional boxer.

How the rivalry started

The boxing contest was preceded by a public disagreement between the two entertainers.

According to Premium Times, the dispute began around a proposed collaboration and subsequently spilt onto social media.

The exchanges intensified in September, with both women responding publicly to one another before Balmoral Promotions announced the boxing match.

Their rivalry continued during promotional appearances, including a press conference and face-off in Lagos, where the confrontation reportedly became heated, and security personnel intervened.

The build-up helped generate significant attention ahead of the October 1 contest.

Phyna had predicted an early finish

Before the fight, Phyna had reportedly predicted that she would stop Nkechi Blessing in the second round.

The contest ultimately went considerably longer, with the decisive moment coming in the fourth and final round.

After the victory, however, Phyna said her approach had been to remain patient, conserve energy and wait for her opponent to tire before attempting to finish the contest.

Carter Efe also wins

The Phyna–Nkechi Blessing contest was one of two major celebrity bouts on the card.

Content creator Carter Efe also secured victory, defeating rapper Speed Darlington by technical knockout in their four-round contest.

The referee stopped that fight after Speed Darlington stopped responding to Carter Efe's attacks, giving Efe another victory in the “Chaos in the Ring” series.

Carter Efe had previously defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision in May 2026, extending his unbeaten record in the celebrity boxing series.

Professional boxing also featured

The event also included professional boxing contests.

In the main event, Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeated Nigerian champion Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.

The event combined celebrity entertainment with professional boxing as part of Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary celebrations.

The card was held at Balmoral Hall at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, and was broadcast on SuperSport and DAZN.

What comes next for Phyna?

With her victory over Nkechi Blessing, Phyna has already indicated an interest in another celebrity boxing contest.

Her proposed next opponent, Etinosa Idemudia, has accepted the challenge, potentially setting up another high-profile bout in the “Chaos in the Ring” series.

For Nkechi Blessing, however, the actress has signalled that her immediate focus is a return to filmmaking.

The contest has therefore produced not only a new celebrity boxing champion but also another potential rivalry for Balmoral Promotions, while Phyna's comments suggest that her interest in boxing may extend beyond the one-night celebrity event.
