Julius Agwu Opens Up: ‘My Sexual Function Never Recovered After Brain Surgery’

Nigerian comedian and actor Julius Agwu has spoken candidly about the long-term effects of the brain surgery he underwent in the United States in [2015], including its impact on his sexual health.

Agwu made the disclosure during a recent edition of the Beer Parlour Talk Show, uploaded on Saturday. The conversation covered his medical journey, career, relationships and the physical changes he says followed the procedure.

Health Battle and Surgery

The entertainer underwent surgery after doctors reportedly found three tumours in his brain, including one said to be as large as a golf ball. He has previously discussed how the illness and recovery period altered the course of his personal and professional life.

During the latest interview, the host asked whether the condition or surgery had affected other parts of his body, including his sexual function.

Agwu responded in Pidgin: “After I do am, prick no dey work again now. He no dey work.”

Other guests on the programme, including Mr Patrick, subsequently discussed the possible connection between nerves involved in the procedure and areas of the brain, suggesting that nerve-related complications could explain the effect Agwu described.

Career Reflections

Near the end of the episode, Agwu also reflected on his influence in Nigerian comedy, particularly the use of music as part of comic performance.

“Music comedy na me form am o, that is to tell you how my brain dey work,” he said.

The comedian became emotional as he spoke about his career and said he had experienced abandonment from people he considered friends during his health challenges.

“God wey I dey serve, anybody wey get hand for wetin happen to me. I go dey look. My friends deserted me. They stopped talking to me, many of them. It is well,” he said.

Despite the setbacks he has described, Julius Agwu remains a well-known figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, recognised for his work in Nollywood and for helping popularise a style of comedy that blends music, storytelling and performance.
