Rita Edochie Warns Women Dating Married Men: “Regain Your Sanity”

Nollywood veteran actress Rita Edochie has sparked fresh conversation online after issuing a strongly worded warning to women who pursue or maintain relationships with married men.
In a social media post published on October 5, 2026, Edochie questioned why some women would choose to pursue another woman’s husband when they could instead build relationships with single men.
According to the actress, women are uniquely created and possess qualities that should enable them to find suitable partners without interfering in existing marriages.
She urged women to “learn morals and forget hate”, arguing that people should focus on building relationships based on character and acceptable values rather than becoming involved in situations that could cause pain to another family.
Her message became particularly blunt when she addressed women who are currently involved with married men.
Edochie warned that such women should reconsider their actions and return to what she described as the ways and teachings of God.
She used the Igbo expression “ara ga agba gi”, followed by “serious madness,” before saying that those involved could “regain” their sanity by stopping the behaviour and surrendering to God’s teachings.
Rita Edochie’s wider position on marriage
The latest statement is consistent with Edochie’s previous public commentary about marriage, infidelity and relationships involving married people.
In August, she argued that marriage should not be treated as a competition between two women and questioned the idea of leaving one relationship to pursue another woman’s husband.
She has also previously criticised the idea of married men maintaining overly close relationships with female friends or former partners, arguing that married couples should establish clear boundaries.
At the same time, Edochie has spoken against double standards surrounding infidelity, arguing in July that men and women should be held to the same standards when it comes to cheating and forgiveness.
Is the latest post directed at someone specific?
Edochie did not name any woman in the October 5 post. Her comments were framed generally at women who pursue married men.
However, some entertainment reports have connected her continuing commentary about marriage and “husband snatching” to the ongoing public dispute involving Judy Austin and Yul Edochie. Those reports describe this as an interpretation of the context rather than something explicitly stated in the latest post.
Edochie has previously been publicly associated with commentary surrounding the Edochie family’s highly publicised marital controversy.
The bigger conversation
Edochie’s latest remarks have once again placed questions about marital boundaries, infidelity, responsibility and the role of third parties in relationships in the spotlight.
Her argument is that women should not deliberately pursue men who are already married when they have the opportunity to establish relationships of their own. At the same time, debates around infidelity often raise a broader question: responsibility cannot rest solely on the third party, because the married partner ultimately makes their own choices about whether to remain faithful.
That distinction is particularly relevant given Edochie’s own earlier criticism of gender-based double standards surrounding infidelity.
For now, her October 5 statement remains a strongly worded general warning rather than a named accusation. The actress's choice of language, however, has ensured that the post is attracting significant attention across Nigerian entertainment and social-media circles.
