Sowore Leads ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protest in Abuja

African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore led a protest in Abuja on Tuesday, with demonstrators chanting “Tinubu must go” and calling for President Bola Tinubu to leave office.

Videos and same-day reports showed Sowore at the front of the procession as protesters marched through parts of the Federal Capital Territory carrying placards directed at the president.

Protest Comes Amid 2027 Mobilisation

The demonstration comes as Sowore intensifies political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

On October 3, he led an AAC campaign rally in Lagos tagged the “One-Million-Man March,” which the party said was intended to mobilise supporters and expand its presence ahead of the election.

Sowore’s current approach combines two tracks:

ActivityPurpose

AAC campaign rallies and marchesBuild support for his 2027 presidential bid
Public protestsExpress opposition to Tinubu’s administration and highlight governance concerns

The Abuja protest therefore forms part of Sowore’s broader political strategy rather than being an isolated demonstration.

What Protesters Demanded

Demonstrators were heard chanting:

“Tinubu must go.”

Some placards reportedly carried President Tinubu’s image with the same message.

Sowore has repeatedly criticised the administration over economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, governance and what he describes as restrictions on civic and political freedoms.

However, a protest shows the views of those who participated. It does not by itself establish the level of nationwide support for the demand or predict the outcome of the 2027 election.

Sowore’s Court Case

The protest also took place while Sowore remains involved in a criminal case instituted by the Department of State Services, DSS.

He is facing charges relating to alleged cyberstalking and criminal defamation arising from social-media posts in which he described President Tinubu as a “criminal.”

The existence of the case does not establish the truth or falsity of Sowore’s allegations. It is a matter before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore has argued that the proceedings are being used to restrict his movement and disrupt his ability to campaign nationally.

Caution Over Protest Videos

Political protest footage can be mislabelled or recycled online, so the date and context of videos should always be checked.

In this case, multiple same-day reports and Sowore’s own social-media post described the October 6 protest in Abuja.dailypost+2

That confirms an organised demonstration took place, led by Sowore and involving chants against Tinubu. It does not, however, establish the turnout figure, the broader public’s opinion or the likely electoral outcome in 2027.

Bottom Line

Sowore has led another Abuja protest calling for Tinubu to leave office while also preparing for the 2027 presidential election as the AAC candidate.

The protest underscores continued public opposition activity against the administration, but its political significance will ultimately depend on whether Sowore and the AAC can translate street-level mobilisation into nationwide voter support at the ballot box.
