Kenya airways passenger dies shortly before Lagos landing

Kenya Airways confirmed on Wednesday that a passenger on its flight from Nairobi to Lagos died shortly before the aircraft touched down.

Kenya Airways says a passenger died aboard its flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos on Tuesday.

In a statement on Wednesday, the airline said the passenger became unresponsive about 20 minutes before the aircraft landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

“Our crew administered first aid as per their training and followed all emergency procedures,” the statement reads.

“Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away.”

The airline offered condolences to the person’s family and friends and apologised for any distress or disruption caused by the incident. Kenya Airways said it is assisting the deceased’s relatives and working with local authorities and aviation regulators to manage next steps.

“We uphold and respect the privacy and dignity for all involved,” the airline added.

Airport and emergency officials were on the ground when the flight arrived. Kenya Airways did not provide further details about the passenger’s identity or the cause of death, saying investigations and coordination with relevant authorities are ongoing.
