FCT police investigate claim officers demanded N450,000 from content creator

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi has demanded an investigation into allegations that investigators in the FCT police demanded N450,000 from a content creator before taking action on a complaint.
The complaint was in a video that went viral on social media where the content creator alleged that FCT Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department detectives demanded N450,000 from him as “mobilisation and petition”.
The Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the police are aware of the video circulating online and that they do not encourage or allow their officers to ask for any form of payment.
“The Command wishes to state that it does not encourage or permit its staff from soliciting or demanding any form of payment before, during or after investigations,” Adeh said in a statement obtained on Thursday.
She said the FCT police commissioner has demanded a detailed probe into the matter to determine its veracity and take action against the personnel if found guilty.
“Adequate investigation will be carried out by the FCT Police Command to unravel the truth and take legal action against those found to be responsible in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations,” she said.
The FCT police urged the complainant to reach out and give more details to help with the investigation.
They also urged him to call 08180382808 and visit the Command Headquarters to give the necessary information that could help identify the officer or officers involved.
They said the investigation will help them find out what actually happened and take further action if any wrong doing is discovered.
