Edo Assembly: Natasha Osawaru Introduces Herself Without ‘Idibia’ Surname

What happened at the Assembly

In a video uploaded on her Instagram page on Tuesday, the Egor Constituency lawmaker introduced herself as “Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru” while addressing her colleagues at the plenary. A nameplate in front of the lawmakers also showed only Osawaru and not 'Idibia'.

"Mr Speaker, my name is Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, member representing the very great people of Egor Constituency and by God's grace the minority leader of this House," she said.

Osawaru, the minority leader of the Assembly, spoke on a bill seeking to provide for the establishment of a responsive and proactive emergency response structure in Edo State. She said the time for the state's legislators to evolve a policy framework for the establishment of a responsive and proactive emergency management and preparedness is ripe.

Why it has attracted attention

The latest development reignited the speculation regarding the status of the relationship of Osawaru and 2Baba, as she introduced herself with her maiden name in the Assembly, after apparently doing the same in several public places including the airport.

Her absence from the 51st birthday celebration and album listening party of 2Baba in Victoria Island, Lagos last week sparked further speculations after she skipped the event where family members and some well-known personalities were present. However, Osawaru and 2Baba have not publicly confirmed the marriage problems or explained her absence from the event.

Background to the relationship

Osawaru and 2Baba got married in July 2025 after his one-year separation from Annie Macaulay-Idibia. The couple is yet to celebrate their first child's church dedication which is scheduled to hold in February.

Their relationship has been a subject of speculation since August when a video circulating online showed the two in a heated argument at a club in Abuja. At the time, 2Baba and Annie followed each other on Instagram, while the singer and Osawaru ended the mutual following on the social media platform.

As of now, while Osawaru's recent flaunting of her maiden name during the official function does not point to whether a separation would soon take place between her and 2Baba, it further fans the flames of the question on the status of their relationship.
