Geh Geh Declares Support for Peter Obi, Says His Choice Is Based on the Candidate, Not Party

Nigerian social media personality Geh Geh has publicly declared that he intends to vote for Peter Obi in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, saying his decision reflects his personal assessment of the candidates rather than loyalty to a political party.
In remarks reported on October 18, 2026, Geh Geh said he preferred Obi over other potential contenders, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore. He stressed that this was his personal opinion and that he wanted a candidate he believed would represent his interests as a Deltan and a Nigerian.
The declaration adds a public figure’s voice to the political debate taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections. However, it represents Geh Geh’s individual preference, not evidence that his followers or Nigerian voters generally share his view.
Why Geh Geh says he will vote for Obi
Geh Geh explained that he was making his choice based on his own assessment of the available candidates and what he believed would best serve his interests.
His reasoning centred on three points:
- Personal assessment over party loyalty: He said he was not voting because of a party label but because of the individual he considered suitable to represent him.
- A different candidate to consider: Geh Geh argued that Nigerians had already experienced Tinubu’s presidency and Atiku’s previous role as vice-president under Olusegun Obasanjo, while Obi had not served as Nigeria’s president.
- Political accountability: He encouraged Nigerians dissatisfied with the available candidates to consider running for office themselves rather than limiting their participation to criticism.
His comments were reported in Nigerian media on October 18, following a statement circulating on social media.
Geh Geh challenges undecided Nigerians
The influencer also criticised Nigerians who have not publicly declared their preferred presidential candidate. He suggested that citizens should be more deliberate about their political choices and resist being confused or influenced by partisan arguments.
He urged people who believe none of the prominent contenders is suitable to consider contesting themselves, arguing that political change requires participation rather than criticism alone.
There is, however, an important distinction between encouraging political participation and suggesting that everyone must publicly announce a voting preference. Citizens can participate in democracy by researching candidates, registering to vote, scrutinising policies and voting privately. No voter should be pressured to disclose a personal political choice.
Is this a new political position?
Not entirely. An earlier report from February 2026 said Geh Geh had already expressed support for Peter Obi for president in 2027. At that time, he also expressed support for Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the state's governorship contest.
His October statement therefore appears to reaffirm a preference he had expressed previously, rather than mark a newly announced change of allegiance. The latest report does not establish whether his earlier position has changed in any material way.
What does the endorsement mean for 2027?
Public endorsements by entertainers, influencers and online personalities can contribute to political discussion, especially among audiences who follow them. But the reach of an endorsement should not be confused with measurable electoral influence.
To determine whether such support has a broader effect, observers would need evidence such as credible voter surveys, changes in public opinion, campaign participation and turnout data. The available reports provide no such evidence linking Geh Geh’s declaration to a measurable shift in support for Obi.
The larger issue is whether Nigerians will evaluate candidates on their policy proposals, records in public office, plans for the economy and security, and ability to implement their promises.
Note:
Geh Geh has reiterated that he intends to vote for Peter Obi in 2027 because he personally considers Obi the candidate most suitable to represent his interests. He says his decision is based on his assessment of the candidates rather than party loyalty.
The declaration adds to the public political conversation, but it should be understood as an individual endorsement—not a measure of national voter sentiment. Nigerians remain free to assess candidates independently, make their own choices and keep their votes private.
