NYPD Officer Shoots Armed Woman While Responding to Queens Home Invasion and Stabbing

An NYPD officer shot an armed woman during a chaotic Queens stabbing incident. The woman was injured when she charged towards police with a knife while four people inside the home were found with stab wounds. Authorities said they do not believe the woman shot was responsible for the alleged burglary and stabbing.

What happened

At around 9.44pm officers from the 113th Precinct attended a property on 149th Street in South Ozone Park after receiving numerous 911 calls reporting a burglary and stabbing. There was no information about any alleged suspect.

Two men responded to numerous knocks on the front and back doors. One of them, clearly injured, said he had been stabbed by his uncle and was unable to come downstairs.

Police requested ambulance crews, specialist assistance and hostage negotiators. Shortly later a woman answered the door on the third floor. She also said she was unable to come downstairs and tossed keys to officers outside.

Armed with the keys officers were able to unlock and kick in a back door. They heard screaming coming from inside the house. Officers announced they were police and ascended the stairs entering a small bedroom on the third floor. Three people were found on the floor of the room. One man was sat on the floor with another on top of him. A woman was on top of both.

The two men raised their hands when asked by police. However, police said the woman raised her left arm across her body but kept her right arm down. She then charged towards them with a knife. One officer fired a shot when she got within a few feet. Another officer fired a Taser and a third retrieved the knife.

Injuries

The woman was taken downstairs by officers who provided her with emergency assistance. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital in a stable condition. Three men were also injured by stab wounds and taken to Jamaica Hospital and North Shore University Hospital. Several officers were taken to local hospitals for precautionary checks.

Detectives recovered two knives from the scene. The whole incident was captured on body worn cameras. NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said the people inside the house knew each other however investigators are still working to establish what happened prior to police attending.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division are leading the inquiry.
