Five People Killed as Ukrainian Strikes Hit Russian Regions and Industrial Infrastructure BELGOROD, Russia

At least five people were killed in reported Ukrainian attacks across Russia’s Belgorod and Lipetsk regions on Sunday, while a separate drone strike damaged an industrial facility in the Perm region and injured five workers, according to Russian regional officials cited by Reuters.

The incidents highlight the continuing reach of the Russia–Ukraine conflict beyond the front lines, with attacks affecting border communities, industrial facilities and civilian infrastructure.

Civilian casualties and damage in Belgorod

In Belgorod, a Russian city close to the Ukrainian border, an overnight drone attack killed three people and injured 13 others, according to regional governor Alexander Shuvayev.

The attack reportedly damaged 30 apartment buildings, 35 cars, four houses, three administrative buildings, eight commercial premises and three social facilities.

A separate drone strike later hit a car in the village of Voznesenovka, near Shebekino, killing one person and injuring another, local authorities said.

The attacks brought the reported death toll in the Belgorod region to four, underscoring the risks facing residents in areas near the international border.

Industrial zone struck in Lipetsk region

In the Lipetsk region, Governor Igor Artamonov said a Ukrainian missile strike hit an industrial zone in the city of Yelets.

According to the governor, the attack killed a security guard employed at one of the industrial facilities and injured a paramedic, who was taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities did not identify the facility targeted in Yelets. Reuters said it could not independently verify the report, and Ukraine had not immediately commented on the incident.

Perm industrial facility damaged

Farther east, in Russia’s Perm region in the Ural Mountains, a drone attack damaged an industrial facility and injured five workers, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said.

Emergency services responded to the incident, and the injured workers received medical assistance, according to the governor.

He did not disclose the identity of the facility or provide detailed information about the extent of the damage.

Russia reports strikes on Ukrainian logistics targets

The developments came amid continuing attacks by both sides.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said Russian drones had struck a cargo vessel travelling towards the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Chornomorsk. It alleged that the vessel was being used to supply the Ukrainian military.

The ministry also reported strikes on a logistics centre, a distribution center and a logistics terminal in Kharkiv, claiming the sites stored or distributed goods intended for military use.

Reuters said it could not independently verify those Russian military claims.

What the developments mean

The reported attacks illustrate the expanding geographic scope of the conflict and the vulnerability of infrastructure and communities far from active battlefields.

For Russia, attacks on industrial facilities can create security and operational challenges, although the long-term impact of the reported damage remains unclear. For civilians, damage to residential buildings, vehicles and public facilities adds to the human cost of the war.

The latest incidents also underline the difficulties of establishing a complete picture during an active conflict. Casualty figures and damage assessments released by local authorities may change, while claims about military targets and responsibility require independent verification.

Note: The reported deaths in Belgorod and Lipetsk, alongside injuries at an industrial facility in Perm, demonstrate the continuing civilian and infrastructure costs of the Russia–Ukraine war. Independent verification remains essential as both sides continue reporting strikes against military and industrial targets.
