2027: Akpabio Claims Tinubu’s Online Critics Are Paid

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused many people who are critical of President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media of taking payment. He called on northern youths to ramp up their mobilisation efforts for the 2027 presidential elections.

Akpabio spoke during a visit by a delegation representing the Arewa Revival Project, the youth group of the 19 northern states. They were led by Mustafa Ibrahim, the coordinator.

The group gave the Senate President an award for his contribution towards national development. Akpabio thanked the group adding that they should help mobilise people to support Tinubu’s re-election. He added that Nigerians need to understand the importance of stability.

However he warned that it would be difficult as many of the attacks on the President and his supporters are often paid.

"I’m telling you it will be difficult for you. Because most of the people that are attacking our President, the youths, are mostly doing it for pay. You are not doing it for pay."

He urged the youths to meet regularly to educate citizens.

"You may not be able to meet with them but we’re encouraging you to meet the youths sometimes so that they know the truth."

Defending reforms

Akpabio spoke in defence of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms including tax reforms. He noted that the government was trying to move away from Nigeria’s reliance on crude oil.

"Then President Tinubu came in with reforms to move our economy away from our old laws. To diversify and move away from our old laws," he stated.

"We know that the Nigerian youths will stand above all these social media propaganda. This President has really done something for us. We’ve moved away from being a mono economy which was dependent solely on crude oil."

He added that the administration has performed well. Adding that members of the National Assembly have given Tinubu a second term.

"Not a single president has developed our country as much as this president has done. And we are proud to give him a pass mark."

State Policing

Akpabio said he was optimistic that the country would overcome its security issues. He added that by setting up state police, it would improve the country’s security.

He claimed that around 30 state Houses of Assembly have passed the constitutional amendment bill needed to set up state policing. Adding that it could be in place within one month.

"As I’m speaking to you right now, for the first time in the history of Nigeria we may actually have a state police force within a month."

He added that the state police would improve security. He advised the youths to stay positive as they mobilise people to support Tinubu.

Ibrahim said earlier that they were giving Akpabio an award for his contributions to national development and the successes of the National Assembly.
