Atiku Seeks Daily Date-Stamped Proof of Tinubu’s Umrah in Makkah

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has directed the Presidency to release daily photographs and video footage showing the activities of President Bola Tinubu in Makkah, Saudi Arabia as he performs his Umrah pilgrimage.
“Atiku has challenged the Presidency to show proof of the President’s participation in religious activities during his trip abroad after news about his travel plans were made public,” Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council said in a statement on Wednesday.
“If President Tinubu is going abroad to pray for our nation, the Presidency should make the photographs and videos of the President at the Kaaba doing his Umrah rites public each day, with clear images with dates,” Atiku said.
Nigerians have a right to know the President’s daily activities, complete travel schedule and how he is funding his trip as he is going abroad on a religious mission.
Atiku claimed intelligence he has received indicated that the President may not spend much time in Makkah and requested the Presidency to answer queries about the President’s health and a reported $20 billion loan request from a French business associate.
While stating that he and other Nigerians would pray alongside Tinubu for Nigeria’s peace and development, Atiku added that the religious nature of the trip should not prevent people from questioning what he is doing. “No one should mention Almighty Allah’s name in vain,” he said.
The Presidency had stated that Tinubu would leave Abuja on Thursday to perform his Umrah in Makkah. The President is expected back in Nigeria next week after praying for peace, unity, stability and development for Nigeria, Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said.
Prior to leaving, Tinubu will commission new equipment purchased by the Nigerian Air Force at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
This comes as there has been increased political activity ahead of the 2027 general election with opposition figures questioning the government’s policies.
