DHQ: Troops Neutralise Senior ISWAP Commander Abdussamad Ohida in Ondo Forest.

Nigerian security forces have killed a top commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group, Abdussamad Ohida, during an intelligence driven joint operation in Owo Forest, Ondo State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja disclosed the incident during the monthly Defence Correspondents briefing by the armed forces on Friday. He stated the joint operation conducted on October 2, 2026, targeted terrorists in the forest and led to the neutralisation of some fighters including Ohida.
Who is Ohida?
Ohida, also known as Anwar, is the second-in-command to ISWAP’s leader in Central Nigeria. He rose to prominence following the arrest of his predecessor Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais, by the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2023.
Security agencies stated that Ohida has been overseeing ISWAP operations in some areas of North-Central and Southern Nigeria. He has also been involved in planning large scale attacks on civilians.
Significant Operational Win For ISWAP
Major General Onoja said the killing of Ohida marks a major breakthrough in operations against ISWAP. He added it will cause disarray within their ranks and thwart their efforts to increase their presence in Nigeria.
The operation is part of efforts to counter terrorism by the Armed Forces and security partners. It aims to disrupt terror networks and create chaos within their ranks. The operation is also aimed at preventing terrorist attacks on civilians.
Reports state that the joint operation was carried out by the Nigerian Army, DSS and Western Nigeria Security Network (popularly known as Amotekun).
