Tinubu Performs Umrah In Saudi Arabia, Prays For Nigeria’s Peace, Unity And Stability

October 31, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has performed the Islamic lesser pilgrimage, known as Umrah, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, offering prayers for Nigeria's peace, national unity, stability and continued development.

The President undertook the spiritual exercise early Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, where he circumambulated the Holy Ka'abah in worship, devotion and thanksgiving to Almighty Allah.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu used the occasion to seek divine guidance and protection for Nigeria and its citizens.

The President also prayed for an end to insecurity and other challenges confronting the country, urging divine guidance for Nigerian leaders and stronger bonds of unity among citizens.

Speaking with journalists after completing the religious rites, Tinubu described the pilgrimage as significant, linking it to his commitment to Nigeria and his responsibility as the country's leader.

He expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to perform Umrah and pray for the nation.

The President said he hoped Nigeria would continue making progress towards economic prosperity, social development and a more secure future.

He further reiterated his administration's commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous country where Nigerians, regardless of religious or cultural backgrounds, could live in safety, dignity and harmony.

Nigeria's Security and Economic Challenges

Tinubu's prayers come at a time when Nigeria continues to face significant national challenges, including insecurity, economic pressures, unemployment and concerns about the cost of living.

The President's call for lasting peace and national unity also comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, when political activities are expected to intensify.

His pilgrimage has brought renewed attention to the importance of national cohesion, peaceful political engagement and the responsibility of government institutions to address issues affecting citizens.

While prayers remain an important expression of faith for many Nigerians, the country's security and economic challenges will also require sustained government action, effective policies, accountability and cooperation among stakeholders.

The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week following the completion of his pilgrimage.

Background: What Is Umrah?

Umrah, commonly called the lesser Hajj, is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be undertaken at any time of the year.

Unlike the obligatory Hajj, which takes place during specific dates in the Islamic calendar, Umrah involves a shorter series of religious rites, including circumnavigating the Ka'abah.

Muslims undertake the pilgrimage for worship, spiritual renewal, repentance and supplication.

Note:

President Tinubu's pilgrimage highlights the importance he places on faith and prayers for Nigeria's future.

However, Nigerians will continue to look towards practical outcomes in tackling insecurity, improving living conditions, strengthening the economy and promoting national unity.

Ultimately, the public expectation is that the prayers for peace and prosperity will be matched by measurable progress in governance and the welfare of citizens.
