Suspected Kidnapper Arrested by Army and DSS While Collecting N200,000 Ransom in Nasarawa

Troops of the Nigerian Army along with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested a suspected kidnapper in Nasarawa State who was allegedly collecting a ransom of N200,000 from his target.
Mukaila Iliyasu was arrested at Akwaba in Eggon Local Government Area by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke and DSS operatives.
In a statement, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, of Operation Whirl Stroke, said that on October 29, security agencies received intelligence that Iliyasu had threatened to kidnap a lady unless she paid him N200,000.
This prompted the DSS to alert the military and a joint operation was put in place to trace the suspect to foil the kidnap plot. A soldier reportedly went undercover to play the role of the person that was supposed to receive the ransom money.
The suspect was arrested as he was being paid the ransom and the N200,000 believed to have been demanded from the target was recovered by security operatives.
The military said it was a successful intelligence operation which prevented a kidnap. The military added that such an operation showed the importance of inter-agency collaboration between security agencies.
The suspect was then handed to the DSS.
Major General Moses Kolo Gara, Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army praised the professionalism, bravery and coordination of the troops and DSS operatives.
He urged security personalities to continue with the inter-agency relationship and improve information sharing to tackle the issue of kidnap and other threats in their areas. Gara added that continued collaborative work is vital in ensuring people's safety, keeping communities safe and maintaining peace.
