Just in: Atiku accuses DSS of recruiting agitators to disrupt ADC rally in Sokoto

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and presidential candidate for African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the leadership of the Department of State Services (DSS) of recruiting agitators to disrupt the party’s presidential campaign kickoff rally in Sokoto.
“This is nothing short of political sabotage. They want to strangle ADC, limit political debate and deny Nigerians the right to choose.
Breach of public infrastructure
“Atiku accused the party of blocking access to public infrastructure and denying logistical support because they are supposed to be open to all political parties. This is all to ensure ADC do not have a fair chance.
“The DSS have recruited agitators to disrupt the rally in Sokoto. Their plan is to create chaos so that the APC-led state government can impose a curfew.
He said that the party had evidence that some agitators had gathered at an office behind Zenith Bank along Koko Road. From here the group had sent out trucks to key points including a roundabout. It had caused traffic problems and some commuters faced threats and assaults.
Political interference
“If this is true then this is pure political interference from a security agency. Their job is to keep us safe and ensure we follow the law. They shouldn’t be getting involved in political activities.
“Those involved should stop what they are doing.”
Tinubu administration focused on undermining credible opposition
Atiku also accused the Bola Tinubu administration of focusing on undermining credible opposition instead of tackling Nigeria’s economic and social challenges. He claimed they had adopted a policy of absorbing and intimidating opposition figures by enticing them into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Atiku said that the administration were scared to face the peoples opinion as we face a serious cost of living crisis. Food, transport, fuel and electricity are becoming increasingly expensive.
Affordable prices
However, if voted in Atiku promised to bring back affordable prices. He said the party would promote local production, increase food security, create jobs and lower costs.
He also plans to implement a fuel subsidy policy whereby fuel refined in Nigeria will be subsidised. This will give tangible relief to consumers but also boost local industries.
ADC will not back down
Despite the accusations Atiku said the ADC would not back down and the party would hold their campaign kickoff rally. He said he would be attending in person.
He urged residents in Sokoto to stay calm and not get provoked. He also urged security agencies to keep residents, commuters and those attending the rally safe without bias.
“We urge Nigerians to stay strong. We have a right to our democratic freedoms and we will not let anyone who is allegedly conspiring to stifle our political freedoms off the hook.” However the claims are disputed as the Sokoto APC have previously denied similar accusations of political interference. The police have said they are investigating the reported incidents.
